HCL is the new name for trusted IBM Software. For many years, much of the IBM software portfolio was maintained and developed by the Indian company HCL. In October 2017, IBM entered into a "strategic partnership" with HCL Technologies, through which the latter took over development of IBM Lotus Software's Notes, Domino, Sametime and Verse collaboration tools.
